WAYMAN'S NEW PASTOR

Taurus L. Myhand is a native of Brundidge, Alabama. He completed his Bachelors of Science of Political Science degree at Troy University in Troy, Alabama and a Bachelor of Science of Liberal Studies degree at the University of Alabama at Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama.  He also received extensive training in Elementary K-6 Collaborative Education.  He is a graduate of The Interdenominational Theological Center and Turner Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia with a Master of Divinity degree (M.Div.) concentrating in Missiology, Evangelism, and Ecumenics . In March 2009, he was selected as a teacher for the Certificate in Theological Studies (CTS) program at Metro State Prison for women which is sponsored and funded by the Atlanta Theological Association. In April 2009, he published a book entitled, Do This in Remembrance of Me: Christ’s Commission to Engage in an Incarnational Ministry of Mission that reaches to the Margins of Society. After traveling to Brazil, he helped to develop a model for ministry for those affected and infected with HIV/AIDS. He  worked secularly as a special education teacher at Pike County High School. He served as a varsity football assistant coach for the 2005 State Championship team.  He answered his call to the ministry at the age of fourteen and was admitted on trial to the South Alabama Annual Conference. After five years of denominational studies, he was elected and ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He has served in ministerial leadership positions such as the Annual Conference Board of Examiners, the Annual Conference Finance Committee, and the Chair of the Annual Conference Presiding Elders’ Apportionment Committee.

Taurus Myhand is now serving his sixth pastoral charge as the senior pastor of Wayman AME Church in St Louis, Missouri.  His previous pastoral appointments have included:  Person Chapel AME Church (Midway, AL); Saint Paul AME Church (Scottsboro, AL); Allen Chapel AME Church (Skipperville, AL); Hopewell AME Church (Brundidge, AL); and Saint Emmanuel AME Church (Eufaula, AL). As a pastor, he has the experience of developing outreach programs in the community and developing church growth programs within the congregation. Under his leadership, along with the officers and members of Person Chapel AME Church, the church began the development of a $500,000 Family Life Center in Midway which is a town of less than 500 people. The facility will offer a state of the art computer lab; full-court gymnasium; community outreach facility; and youth, adult, and senior recreation activities. He has a wonderful, talented wife, Denise, who also was educated at Troy University. He also has and three amazing daughters, Britney, Blair, and Camille.
